According to the Spanish media, Manchester United has contacted Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, to negotiate the replacement of Erik ten Hag at the club.
The Red Devils have had a difficult start to the new season and currently sit 10th in the Premier League standings. Their European performance has not been much better, with Manchester United currently at the bottom of Group A in the Champions League after consecutive losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
Ten Hag’s position is becoming increasingly uncertain despite assurances from Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The British billionaire has stated that the Dutch coach will continue to work if he takes on the sporting director role at Old Trafford.
Recently, a report from Spain’s El Chiringuito linked Ancelotti to the Manchester United job if the Italian coach decides to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Benjamin Lopez, a journalist at El Chiringuito, stated: “Ancelotti has made two decisions about his future. One is that if they offer an extension, he will stay in Madrid. If not, Carlo will start negotiations with the Brazilian Football Confederation.”
Lopez revealed that, apart from Brazil, Ancelotti has also received offers from the Canadian national team and Manchester United. Lopez continued: “He has a house in Vancouver, and his wife is Canadian, so Carletto will be very happy to go there. The latest offer is from Manchester United. They have begun negotiations.”
Ancelotti has previously spent several years in the Premier League, managing Chelsea (2009-2011) and later Everton (2019-2021). Consequently, he wouldn’t face many surprises in leading Manchester United. However, the top priority for the 64-year-old strategist is to extend his contract at Bernabeu.
