Defender Luke Shaw and midfielder Alejandro Garnacho liked posts supporting coach Erik ten Hag on X.

“The players can’t finish, but is Ten Hag blamed?” JZthekid wrote on X. “I hate Man Utd fans.”

This user’s comment received a like from Luke Shaw’s account. However, after a day, the Man Utd left-back unliked the post.

Coach Erik ten Hag during a Man Utd training session in Manchester, England, on November 7, 2023.

Similarly, Garnacho liked a post from the account EBL2017, defending the Dutch coach. “I urge everyone to be patient with Ten Hag,” they wrote after the loss to Copenhagen in Denmark. “Man Utd’s tactical performance was not good, but that’s because the team had to play with 10 men. The team played well when they had 11 players, and that’s the mark of Ten Hag.”

Unlike Shaw, Garnacho has not unlike this post. Players rarely like such posts on social media. Therefore, the British newspaper Daily Mail suggests that the actions of Shaw and Garnacho indicate that Man Utd players want to defend Ten Hag.

Shaw has not played since the defeat to Tottenham on August 19, 2023, due to a thigh injury. He is expected to return to training in two weeks. The English defender is a key player for the team, capable of playing as a left-back or center-back. Shaw’s dribbling ability is an important attacking weapon from the previous season for Man Utd.

Garnacho will also be in Manchester for training in the next two weeks as he was not called to the Argentine national team. The midfielder has played three matches for the national team in the past two months but was left out this time as Argentina prepares for two crucial World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil.

At Man Utd, the only player opposing Ten Hag is forward Jadon Sancho, who is currently isolated from the first team. The former Dortmund player refuses to apologize to the coach after publicly expressing his dissatisfaction on social media. Sancho could be sold to Saudi Arabia in January 2024.
