Altay Bayindir Ready to Start in Place of Onana

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir delivered an impressive performance in Turkey’s match against Wales in the EURO 2024 qualifiers. This indicates he is ready to replace Andre Onana in Manchester United’s goal.

Onana withdrew from the Cameroon national team during the November training camp. The goalkeeper suffered a hamstring injury in the match last Friday against Mauritius and was substituted.

The Cameroon national team confirmed that Onana would return to his club after a medical examination. Their statement read: “The Cameroon Football Federation announces that player Andre Onana was injured during the match against Mauritius on November 17 in Douala.”

“The medical images performed by the national team doctors revealed the injury to the ankle bone. The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) hopes for Onana’s speedy recovery.”

This will be a significant setback for Onana, who is beginning to find his place at MU. He may have to miss several weeks of play, meaning that coach Erik ten Hag may have to rely on the second-choice goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir.

The Turkish player has not debuted for the Red Devils since joining Fenerbahce last summer. Man United signed Bayindir for £4.3 million on the last day of the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag will have to depend on this 1.98m tall goalkeeper. In the recent match where Turkey faced Wales in the EURO 2024 qualifiers, Altay Bayindir played incredibly well with three crucial saves, contributing to his team’s 1-1 draw.

This is considered a perfect “warm-up” for Bayindir before the upcoming match in the English Premier League when MU faces Everton later this week. The Turkish national team has secured a place in Germany as the top team in Group D, while Wales will have to wait for a chance in the playoffs.
