Forward Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty shot confirmed by VAR, but he scored on the rebound in the 89th minute to help PSG secure a 3-2 victory against Brest in the 11th round of Ligue 1.

The drama unfolded at Francis-Le Blé stadium in the 84th minute when substitute Randal Kolo Muani made a pass to Mbappe, who entered the penalty area. Muani touched the ball and fell after a collision with home team defender Lilian Brassier, and goalkeeper Bizot made a save. Mbappe and Fabian Ruiz immediately approached the referee for a penalty decision.

However, it wasn’t until the ball went out of play that referee Jerome Brisard went to the sideline to review the video footage. After about a minute, he showed Brassier a yellow card and awarded PSG a penalty despite protests from the visiting team players. Both sides continued to argue as Mbappe prepared to take the penalty.

It was only in the 89th minute that the match resumed, and Mbappe stepped up to take the penalty. He struck a low shot to the left corner, which Brest’s goalkeeper managed to block, but the ball rebounded right back to the 24-year-old forward, who slotted it into the empty net, sealing a 3-2 victory.

Mbappe celebrates after scoring the rebound goal that helped PSG defeat Brest 3-2 in the 10th round of Ligue 1 on October 29.

Right after scoring the goal, coach Luis Enrique substituted Mbappe with defender Nordi Mukiele to maintain a one-goal lead. As he left the field and faced chants from Brest fans, PSG’s superstar responded by raising two fingers, indicating that he had just completed a brace.

During his 89 minutes on the field at Francis-Le Ble today, Mbappe had 43 touches, a 71% passing accuracy with four key passes, successfully dribbled past opponents three times, took five shots, and scored two goals.

Mbappe’s earlier goal came in the 28th minute. After a pass from Lee Kang-in, Mbappe accelerated down the left wing, cut inside, and unleashed a low shot into the near corner, leaving goalkeeper Marco Bizot rooted to the spot. The French forward replicated the same scoring scenario as he did in the 3-0 Champions League victory against Milan earlier in the week.

With his double against Brest, Mbappe now has 251 goals for club-level competitions across all tournaments, including 27 with Monaco and 223 with PSG. He achieved this milestone eight years after scoring his first goal for Monaco against Troyes on February 20, 2016.

Mbappe dribbles in the 3-2 victory over Brest in the 10th round of Ligue 1 on October 29.

In this match, 17-year-old midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a long-range strike from outside the penalty area. After Mbappe doubled the lead, Brest made a comeback with goals from Romain Del Castillo and Steve Mounie. PSG faced challenges for the remainder of the match until it benefited from VAR and secured three points with Mbappe’s rebound goal.

The 3-2 win propels PSG to second place in Ligue 1 with 21 points, just one point behind Nice. In the upcoming round on November 3, Mbappe and his teammates will return to their home turf to face Montpellier.
