Real Madrid is about to secure the ‘billion-euro quintet’

Although the agreement had been reached for a while, Real Madrid announced at the end of October that they would renew contracts with Vinicius, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, and Eder Militao. All five players will have a combined contract compensation of 1 billion euros.

Rodrygo, Vinicius, Militao, and Valverde all have a contract buyout clause of 1 billion euros.

Militao, Camavinga, Rodrygo, and Valverde will renew their contracts until 2028, while Vinicius’s contract will extend until 2027. Real Madrid initiated negotiations with this quintet over a year ago and reached agreements with the first four names early on. However, finalizing the negotiations with Vinicius took a few more months.

Real Madrid’s leadership planned to wait for negotiations with Vinicius to conclude and then simultaneously announce the contract extensions for all five players. Under these new contracts, they will all receive significant pay raises. Vinicius, in particular, is set to become one of the highest-paid players on the team, no longer outside the top 3 as it stands.

The buyout clauses for this quintet have all been set at 1 billion euros. This astronomical figure is meant to shield them from the scrutiny of Europe’s wealthy clubs and emerging powers in Saudi Arabia. Securing these five names also ensures Real Madrid’s future, as all of them are still young but already crucial to the team.

This is a necessary move, especially as, in a few weeks, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will rule on the Super League project. Keeping the key players on board will help Real Madrid avoid worrying about the outcome of their battle with UEFA. After announcing these five new contracts, Real Madrid will continue its extension campaign.

Leading the priority list are Nacho, whose contract expires at the end of this season, and Thibaut Courtois, even though the Belgian goalkeeper’s contract runs until 2026. Real Madrid will also assess the performance of Modric, Dani Carvajal, and Lucas Vazquez before deciding on whether to extend the trio’s contracts. Finally, they will also consider the future of the two loaned players, Kepa and Joselu.

Toni Kroos is temporarily leading the salary table
Before Vinicius’s new contract was announced, the German midfielder was the highest earner at Real Madrid. According to data from Capology, Kroos receives 24.3 million euros per year before taxes. He is followed by David Alaba (22.5 million euros), Luka Modric (21.8), and the duo Jude Bellingham and Vinicius (both at 20.8). The remaining Los Blancos players earn salaries ranging from 2.5 million euros (Joselu) to 15 million euros (Courtois).
