The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, praises the impact of Jude Bellingham after three months with Real Madrid.
“Bellingham is a fantastic player, but we didn’t realize the level he could achieve,” Tebas told PA news on November 14. “At Real, everything seems like he came from another planet.”
Tebas also believes that thanks to Bellingham, La Liga is attracting more viewers from England. He asserts that the 20-year-old midfielder has made a significant impact in just three months with Real.
Bellingham joined Real from Dortmund in July for a fee of $110 million. In his first 14 games for the new club, the 20-year-old midfielder scored 13 goals and provided three assists. Two goals were a brace in Real’s 2-1 comeback victory against Barca in La Liga.
Before joining Real, Bellingham scored only four goals in 44 games for Birmingham City, 24 in 132 games for Dortmund, and two in 27 games for the England national team. The only club-level collective title he has won is the 2021 DFB-Pokal with Dortmund.
Therefore, acknowledging the significant influence of the Premier League, Tebas takes pride in Bellingham playing in La Liga. “The best players in Europe are in Spain,” he added. “So, we have the right to choose the best players to come here.”
Bellingham is currently sidelined due to injury. He withdrew from England’s squad preparation for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta on November 17 and North Macedonia on November 20. On November 26, he could return in Real’s match against Cadiz in the 14th round of La Liga.
Real is currently in second place in La Liga with 32 points, trailing Girona by two points. In the Champions League, Bellingham’s team has already secured a spot in round 16 after earning 12 points from the first four matches.
