Striker Ramus Hojlund has set his sights on scoring a beautiful goal against Manchester City, reminiscent of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney when the two clubs face each other this weekend.

Manchester United spent a considerable amount, up to 75 million euros, to bring Hojlund to Old Trafford from Atalanta, and the forward is gradually adapting to the club’s style of play. In fact, Manchester United fans have recently rated Hojlund as one of the most impressive newcomers. However, Hojlund has only scored three goals for Manchester United in the Champions League and hasn’t found the net in the Premier League.

In front of Hojlund lies the Manchester United vs. Manchester City match in the 2023/24 Premier League on October 29. Speaking about his first-ever Manchester derby, Hojlund expressed his emotions and a strong desire to score an iconic goal, much like Wayne Rooney. Back in 2012, Rooney’s spectacular “bicycle kick” goal against Man City in February 2011 was considered the most beautiful goal in the history of the Premier League over the past 20 years.

Wayne Rooney scores his fantastic goal against Man City

When Rooney scored that incredible goal against the “Cityzens,” Hojlund was just eight years old. Still, he has never forgotten that fantastic moment the former Red Devils captain created: “For me, it was the best Manchester derby ever. Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick goal was perfect. Everyone remembers that, right?

I will have the wonderful experience of playing in my first Manchester derby. So, I am looking forward to this match. Facing the city rivals is always special because we will climb up the league table if we win. That victory will be fantastic.”

In addition, Hojlund also shared his thoughts after two months of playing for Manchester United. The Danish star is confident in his progress, albeit not swift but steady and focused: “I know my worth, and I know I have to prove myself every day because I am playing for a top club like Manchester United. Furthermore, I’m only 20 years old, and I still have the potential to develop.

I can progress further, and I’m doing it slowly. I evaluate myself and believe I’ve had a good start to this season. Now, I need to continue building a foundation for myself. When that happens, Premier League goals will come for me.

The Danish forward also shared thoughts on partnering with Marcus Rashford: “Everyone can see that Rashford and I always try to find each other. In the match against Sheffield United, I almost turned Rashford’s pass into an assist. Rashford has also assisted me twice in the Champions League. We always try to connect on the pitch in every situation. I can say that I have good chemistry with Rashford.
